Upscale your paving

If the idea of a terrace of plain grey pavers doesn’t appeal, try this mix and match idea. Leave out selected or random pavers, add topsoil and plant with the ground-cover of your choice. These little balls are scleranthus but Mondo or Baby’s Breath would also work.

Bird Bath

No, you can’t just plonk your birdbath or sculpture or water feature in the middle of the lawn. Give it a ‘frame’. Mark out a square of lawn and remove the turf. Make a frame from H4 timber, 75mm x 25mm or similar. Dig a shallow trench for it. Add a channel of soil around the inside edge and plant with Mondo, miniature flax or similar. Fill in the rest of the area with small pebbles. Add your birdbath.
